SkyeDance are a charity based on the Isle of Skye. Our objective is to offer dance classes and projects to people of all ages and abilities. We aim to encourage people to learn a new skill, as well as having fun, connecting with others and enhance in technique and personal development.

Regular classes throughout the year

SkyeDance are delighted to run regular classes throughout the year from our base at Portree Primary School. We offer a number of classes including Ballet, Contemporary Dance and Hip Hop. Please click the button below to view our latest class schedule.

Professional

SkyeDance provide weekly classes in various dance styles including Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Musical Theatre. Our classes are mainly targeted towards primary and secondary aged children, with the addition of an Adult’s Dance class and a carer and baby/toddler class.

Helping Communities

SkyeDance run Inter-generational Projects where our Dance Officers teach taster workshops in primary schools throughout the term, invite the children to visit people in nursing/care homes to connect with the older generation by performing routines that they have worked on over the term. The purpose of this is to help prevent the feeling of loneliness, especially with the Isle of Skye being such a rural location.

Getting to help out in the community and be involved with local events are always exciting opportunities for us. SkyeDance were selected as a chosen charity by Co-op Community Funding in late 2022 and have also helped out at events organised by Light up Portree and Skye Events. We also run our own events, including our annual showcase where we invite local dance groups to perform alongside our dance groups, it’s always a fun, positive atmosphere!

Dance Studio

Our Structure

SkyeDance was delighted to have its purpose built dance studio opened on Friday 10th January 2020 located in Portree Primary School.

SkyeDance received funding from the Highland Council’s Community Regeneration Funding to employ two Dance Officers who share a full time role. SkyeDance is also run by a group of voluntary board members that dedicate their time to help the day to day running of the charity, including meeting to discuss the delivery of SkyeDance projects and volunteering at community events.

Regular Classes

Professional Coaching

During school term time, we run weekly classes mainly targeted at primary and secondary aged children in various dance styles. We aim to provide enjoyable classes whilst encouraging our students to get creative and stay active.

Our Dance Officers are fully qualified in a range of dance styles, as well as being fully PVG certified.
